About The Blog

Hello and welcome to Cockatiels and California Birds. I started this blog for my love of birds. My two male cockatiels, Misha and Conrad were my inspiration along with the wild birds of California who inspire me every day. There is something very special about going into the field to observe wild birds then coming home to my parrots and noticing the differences and similarities they share. After all, pet parrots are only two generations removed from their wild cousins and therefore, still fairly wild, unlike dogs and cats who have been domesticated for thousands of years.

I have had cockatiels since I was 6 years old; male and female, handfed babies and rescues, healthy and special needs birds, all beautiful and precious in their own way. I will share stories about my current birds Conrad, a 20 year old grey and Misha, a 17 year old pied, along with memories of birds passed who although departed from this world will never be departed from my heart.

I will also share moments in birding from the field to my own backyard. I have been actively birding since childhood, although by no means do I consider myself an expert. I do it for fun more than for keeping score although I do have a list I am constantly expanding. Most of what I share will be from my home state of California, however I will occasionally post stories and photos from my travels when I am lucky enough to visit other locations.

Thank you for visiting and please enjoy my own little world of birds.
